Elders Support Network

Country food for women in the maternity ward

Our women have always known how best to support each other through pregnancy and birthing. Niqituinnaq (country food) is at the heart of a healthy pregnancy and baby growth. For Siqinirmiut, it can be hard have access to nourishing food from the north that we so need during pregnancy. This program supplies cooked country foods to the Birthing Centre at the MUHC Glen hospital site. There is a refrigerator for Indigenous patients on the ** floor. We also visit with the women and make sure they have what they need for once they go back home from the hospital.

This network supports Elders in their physical, well-being, and social health. We provide cooked country food, light help around the home, support for medical appointments, system navigation and visiting. Whatever we can do we will! Would you like to learn more or talk with someone about becoming part of the network? Please call or send us a message.

Support for people in treatment and recovery from cancer

Many people in our community have gone through cancer. It is hard, frightening, physically and emotionally challenging. Working in collaboration with the West Island Cancer and Wellness Centre we facilitate and support your access to supportive care during cancer treatment and for up to a year after treatment. The WICWC has a range of supportive therapies, training, nutritional, arts and physical rehabilitation courses and programs. Qavvivik is working with WICWC to adapt their programs to Inuit realities. Soon we hope to be offering interpretation services for the community as well. Please call or send us a message.

Coming soon

We're just getting started! We will be announcing new services soon, including help navigating the health care system and new service partnerships.
